The Neurosurgery Practice at Valley Children’s Hospital specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of diseases and conditions of the central nervous system for infants, children, and adolescents. We provide inpatient, outpatient and emergency care to over 1,000 patients annually. Each year our neurosurgeons perform about 400 surgeries such as craniotomies, insertion or revision of ventricular shunts, insertion of Vagus Nerve Stimulators and repair of Myelomeningoceles. Neurosurgery is also part of several multidisciplinary teams at Valley Children’s.

SUMMARY: The Nurse Practitioner is an Advanced Practice Practitioner who is accountable for a "defined" patient population. Functions in the roles of expert practitioner, consultant, educator, patient advocate, care coordinator and researcher within a specialized area of practice. Possesses and exhibits a high degree of knowledge, skill and competence in the provision of health care directly to the patient, family or community, or indirectly through guidance of care by other professional personnel. Provision of patient care is conducted and performed utilizing the medical model within the scope of licensure and in accordance with applicable law, regulations, and in accordance with VCH policies. Some positions will be responsible for being on call according to a predetermined schedule or as needed, pursuant to hospital needs. Upon acceptance of an offer of employment and prior to providing patient care, candidate must submit Scope of Practice and all information for credentialing, to the Medical Staff office, Hospital Interdisciplinary Professional Practice Council.

REQUIREMENTS: Graduate of a Physician Assistant program with Master’s level training or Nurse Practitioner program with an RN license and Master’s in nursing required. Preferred experience in the area of pediatric surgery, but exceptional applicants will be considered. Must demonstrate proficiency in the skills and knowledge required to perform the job. NCCPA (for Physician Assistants) and BLS certifications required. ATLS certification preferred. Must successfully complete the credentialing process through the Medical Staff office for the appropriate scope of practice, written standardized protocols, and furnishing privileges. Nurse Practitioners must complete board certification within six months of hire.

Will consider a new Graduate NP or PA with a minimum of three years of related experience.

POSITION DETAILS: Full Time hours 80 per pay period Day shift M - F 8:00 - 5:00
