Clinical Nurse Specialist - Pediatric Post Surgical Unit

SUMMARY: The Clinical Nurse Specialist is an advanced practice nurse who functions in the role of expert clinician, educator, leader, consultant and researcher. In collaboration with the healthcare team, the CNS monitors the clinical care of patients and provides clinical support to improve patient care and outcomes. With in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience in a nursing specialty, the CNS sphere of influence includes the care of the patient/family, practice of nursing and providing solutions for complex systems and processes. The CNS serves as a role model, patient advocate, charge agent, and leader to enhance patient care. This position practices within the scope of the California Nursing Practices Act and in accordance with Valley Children's policies.

Valley Children’s post surgical unit, also known as Explorer, is a 36-bed, acute care unit with a patient population comprised primarily of surgical patients. The unit additionally has the ability to take 16 monitored beds for more critical patients. The unit received transfers from the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and/or Post Anesthesia Care Unit when a patient’s condition is a surgical one. This includes cardiac surgery, trauma, neurosurgery, and orthopedic patients. The premature infant whose condition is stable enough to leave the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit may also be a patient on Explorer. Explorer is also occasionally an overflow area for the acute medical unit. The age range on Explorer is newborn to eighteen years with an average length of stay of four days.

REQUIREMENTS: A) Master's Degree in Nursing with expertise in clinical nursing specialty; B) an active California Registered Nurse licensure (RN); C) certification by the California Board of Registered Nurses as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS); D) Active BLS Certificate. Minimum of three years experience in a related clinical area. Prefer experience in an Inpatient Pediatric patient setting; and E) extensive advanced knowledge of nursing principles, practices and systems. Pediatric nurse experience is a plus.

POSITION DETAILS: Full Time, 80 hours per pay period, M-F 8:00 - 5:00 PM

PAY RANGE: $63.00 - $98.00
