Trauma Advanced Practitioner - Pediatric Surgery Clinic
JOB SUMMARY: This position is accountable for the "defined" patient population of pediatric trauma. The Trauma Services Mid-level Provider (NP and/or PA) functions in the roles of expert practitioner, consultant, educator, patient advocate, care coordinator and researcher within the specialized area of Trauma Services practice in collaboration with the Trauma Service Surgeons and the attending physician. The Trauma Mid-Level Provider acts as a clinical resource to all departments responsible for care of the trauma patient. The incumbent functions as a member of the Trauma Program and is a member of Trauma Administration reporting to the Trauma Coordinator. The individual possesses and exhibits a high degree of knowledge, skill and competence in the provision of pediatric trauma care directly to the trauma patient, family or community, or indirectly through guidance of care by other professional personnel. Provision of pediatric trauma patient care is conducted and performed utilizing the medical model within the scope of licensure and in accordance with applicable law, and regulations, and, in accordance with EMS agency policies and CHCC policies.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Graduate of a Physician Assistant program with Master’s level training or Nurse Practitioner program with an RN license and Master’s in nursing required. Preferred experience in the area of pediatric surgery and trauma, but exceptional applicants will be considered. Must demonstrate proficiency in the skills and knowledge required to perform the job. NCCPA (for Physician Assistants) and BLS certifications required. ATLS certification preferred. Must successfully complete the credentialing process through the Medical Staff office for the appropriate scope of practice, written standardized protocols, and furnishing privileges. Nurse Practitioners must complete board certification within six months of hire.
