Manager Acute Care - Explorer

SUMMARY: This position is accountable for the overall day-to-day management of the care and services provided by the department and its related operations. This includes oversight and accountability for fiscal performance, quality outcomes of care provided, employee engagement and the patient experience within the department. This position is also responsible for human resources including performance and professional development of Charge Nurses and staff. This position practices within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act and in accordance with Valley Children's Healthcare policies.

Starship Exploreris a 36-bed, acute care unit with a patient population comprised primarilyof surgical patients. The surgical services includes, but isnot limited to cardiac, trauma, neurosurgery, ENT and orthopedicpatients. Explorer's patients are both inpatient and observationpatients. Explorer has central monitoring capabilities and 4 rooms withnegative pressure capabilities. Explorer utilizes Valley Children'sHealthcare L.E.G.A.C.Y. Nursing Care Delivery Model which embraces a philosophyof professional practice that supports an environment of excellence in patientcare. The six elements: Leadership, Excellence, Growth,Accountability and Authority, Collaboration, and Your Professional Practice,combine to create the framework for care delivery, including autonomouspractice and role accountability for the RN, the RN as the Coordinator andProvider of care.

REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a Bachelor's degree with a Master's degreepreferred. Either the Bachelor's or Master's must be in Nursing. Individual must possess a valid California RN license as well as a minimum one(1) year leadership and/or managerial experience. Must have a minimumthree (3) years clinical experience, one (1) year of which shall have been inpediatric acute care nursing. Minimum five (5) years increasinglyresponsible experience which demonstrates proficiency in the skills andknowledge required to perform the job is preferred. Basic Life Support(BLS) is required within 30 days of hire or transfer into the position.
