Manager Pharmacy Clinical - Pharmacy
This position reports to the Pharmacy Director, is responsible for all aspects of pharmacy clinical services which promote safe, rational, and cost-effective drug therapy. Responsible for evaluating, developing and implementing: clinical pharmacy programs for inpatient and ambulatory care, staff development and education, protocol development and formulary management, as well as research involving pharmacy services. Serves as pharmacology consultant and provides clinical drug services to meet the needs of patients, nurses, physicians and other healthcare providers. Assures that all pharmacy staff are clinically competent and provide accurate, safe, efficient, cost-effective and patient-specific pharmacotherapy. Methods utilized to achieve these goals may include: education and training programs, policies and procedures, and monitoring of staff performance of provision of cognitive services including but not limited to reviews for: OPPE, FPPE, Peer Reviews, Protocol reviews, provision of drug information, participation in code blues and trauma activations, provision of lectures and presentations to staff. Participates in departmental planning and goal setting, budget preparation and adherence, and performance standards in order to assist in leading the department to the achievement of excellence in pharmacy practice. The individual must display maturity, independence, initiative, and strong communication skills. Supervises the Residency and Education Supervisors and other Clinical Pharmacists and Technicians.

The Inpatient Pharmacy Department at Valley Children’s utilizes evidence-based therapeutic guidelines to provide exceptional pharmaceutical care to our patients. Inpatient Pharmacy provides clinical interdisciplinary pharmacy services in all inpatient areas including Rehab, PICU, NICU, Acute Care, and Oncology. We have numerous pharmacy advance practice protocols including antibiotic monitoring, anticoagulation, IV to oral conversion, and renal dosing. Other clinically supported services include the Emergency Department, Palliative Care, Investigational Drug oversight, and parenteral nutrition (including production). Our team members also support the following specialty clinics: Oncology, Hematology, Rheumatology, Pulmonology/CF, Endocrinology, Neurology, Cardiology and our complex primary care center. Many pharmacists hold collaborative practice agreements to optimize medication therapy management and collaborate to enhance patient care.

EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum one (1) year leadership experience required
- Minimum five (5) years progressively responsible experience required
- Minimum ten (10) years demonstrated mastery of the job content through success in this role in multiple organizations preferred
- Excellent analytical, organizational, technical (spreadsheet and database) and communication skills
- Competent in use of Excel, MS Word and other database programs needed to perform job duties
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
- College degree – 4 year in Pharmacy required
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree required
- ASHP Accredited Residency Program preferred
- Post Graduate Year in Pharmacy-2nd Year preferred
- RPH - Reg Pharmacist California State Board of Pharmacy required
- BLS - Basic Life Support is required within 30 days of hire or transfer into position
- PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support is required within 12 months of hire or transfer into position
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support encouraged for those serving the PICU, Emergency Department and overnight shifts within 12 months of hire or transfer into position preferred
