Admitting Counselor - PT/Varied

This position is accountable for collecting, verifying, and entering correct patient information into multiple systems. Performs patient registration/pre-registration duties for all types of patient admission, and obtains appropriate signature for all necessary consents required. Verifies guarantors address; determines insurance eligibility; collects co-payment and deductibles, and notifies the payer of an admit. Secures reference or authorization number prior to, during, or post admission. Addresses financial concerns and makes referrals to appropriate financial counselors and/or departments. Provides patient information to hospital departments, physicians, and other medical service providers as required. Audits admissions/discharges. Acquires payments/deposits on patient accounts following hospital policies and procedures. Provides assistance to parents demonstrating problems with their hospital stay and refers to the appropriate department for additional support providing patient/family education as needed to facilitate hospital goals, policies, and procedures. Participates in the cross-training program to be able to function at multiple tasks within the admitting department. Performs general clerical duties including: answering telephones, filing, copying, faxing, and stocking supplies.

REQUIREMENTS:This position requires a High School diploma/GED. Minimum three (3) yearsgeneral clerical experience, in a business for healthcare environment orprofessional office involving public contact is required. Minimum two (2)years experience in hospital admissions department or related fieldpreferred. Admitting counselor will need to process insurance informationand medical records, use the phone system, and learn Valley Children's specificsoftware. Computer experience including: spreadsheets, data entry, and wordprocessing. Customer-Service Skills: Must be able to work tactfully andprofessionally with patients, family members and all other hospital staff theyencounter. A successful admitting counselor will be friendly, organized andknowledgeable about health care procedure. Communication Skills:Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills with preferenceto speaking English, Spanish or other languages. Understanding of the overalldiversity of our patient population and treating everyone with respect andcourtesy. Ability to problem solve, multi-task efficiently and organize and prioritizemultiple tasks.

POSITIONDETAILS: Part-time, 64 hours per pay period. Varied shifts
