Health & Wellness Program (All for You) and Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Valley Children’s offers a wide variety of exciting health and fitness challenges and classes to support your physical and emotional health and well-being. Our EAP program helps employees and their families who have problems in areas such as stress, finances, legal, alcohol, drugs and health. Many of these services are offered at no cost to the employee.

All for You Peer Support Program

To help support our teams’ mental and emotional health, Valley Children’s developed its All for You peer support program to provide one-on-one support from a peer after a critical event. Peer Support Program peers are from all disciplines within Valley Children’s and are trained to better support one another after potentially traumatic triggering events.

529 College Savings Plan

It’s never too early to start saving for college. Employees who are regularly scheduled to work at least 40 hours per pay period are eligible to participate in the 529 Plan–an educational savings plan designed to help families set aside funds for future college costs.

Service Recognition Awards

Upon completion of five years of employment, employees are recognized for their years of service with an award and ceremony. Each five year milestone is recognized to reward and thank employees for their continuing service to Valley Children’s. Additionally, our From the Heart employee recognition program allows employees a way to recognize each other for a job well done, while our Halo Program allows grateful families to recognizing a staff member who made a difference during their child’s stay.

Comprehensive Medical/Dental/Vision and Prescription Plans

Valley Children’s offers comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage for employees and their dependents, as well as a prescription plan for retail and mail service medications.

Life Insurance

Base life insurance is provided at no charge to the employee. We offer the option to purchase additional (supplemental) life insurance coverage, as well as life insurance for your spouse or children.

Defined Contribution Base Plan/403(b) Retirement Program

Our Supplemental Retirement Plan is a great way to build your nest egg. This 403(b) plan lets you put away both pre-tax and after-tax dollars for retirement. And the best part? Valley Children’s will match a percentage of what you save on your pretax contribution.

Flexible Spending Accounts

Benefit eligible employees may elect annual to contribute pre-tax dollars to a flexible spending account. These pre-tax dollars can be used to reimburse the employee for dependent care and family medical expenses and as a result reduce your taxable income.

Disability, Accident, and Long-Term Care Insurance

Long- and short-term disability insurance is available to benefit eligible employees. Accident insurance helps offset the unexpected medical expenses that can result from a covered accident, while long-term care insurance is offered to provide financial assistance in the event an employee needs care in a long-term care facility or medical care at home.

Personal Cancer Insurance

The costs of cancer treatment often extend well beyond what traditional health insurance will cover. Valley Children’s personal cancer insurance offering’s benefits include coverage for hospital stays, medical imaging, radiation, chemotherapy, experimental treatment, and cancer wellness screenings.

Tuition Assistance and Reimbursement

Continuing Medical Education

The Valley Children’s Hospital Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program offers a wide range of educational activities for physicians, nurses and other health care professionals. Offerings include Grand Rounds, Tumor Board, Lectures and Case Conferences.

Continuing Education

Valley Children’s offers a variety of Continuing Education (CE) courses for nurses and other healthcare professionals. CE consists of educational activities to develop and maintain knowledge, skills and professional performance.

Nursing Scholarships

The Nursing Professional Development Fund helps nurses on the journey to nursing excellence. The Nursing Education Scholarship Award is available to assist in the academic preparation of undergraduate/graduate nursing students who are employees of Valley Children’s Healthcare.

Clinical Ladder Program

At Valley Children’s, advancement in many clinical positions is driven by the individual. The Clinical Ladder Program recognizes professional development and advancement in expertise and leadership. There are four levels of expertise in nursing practice, RN I to RN IV. Additional positions that have a clinical ladder are Respiratory Care Practitioners, CT Techs, MRI Techs, Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, Neurotechnologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech Pathologists and Clinical Dieticians.

Career Fair

Valley Children’s hosts Career Fairs to encourage career development amongst employees and to provide educational resources from local higher education institutions. Numerous internal departments showcase opportunities for growth within the hospital.

Preceptors

Our new graduate registered nurses are paired with a designated preceptor to provide one-on-one clinical and technical training. Staff members develop newly hired peers into competent, acculturated employees.

Job Shadow Program

The Job Shadow Program provides individuals the opportunity to learn about a job by walking through the work day as a shadow to a competent worker. The job shadowing experience is a temporary, unpaid exposure to the workplace in an occupational area of interest to the individual. Participants witness firsthand the work environment, employability and occupational skills in practice, the value of professional training and potential career options.

Internships

Internships are for students who have a specific field of interest and have a required number of hours to fill to enter a program (i.e. Physical Therapy Program). Students will gain basic hands-on experience under direct supervision at all times.

New Leader Onboarding

The purpose of this program is to provide new management employees including charges, supervisors, managers, directors and above with the knowledge and tools necessary to meet their day-to-day responsibilities. This year-long program provides the philosophical and organizational foundation for leadership at Valley Children's and ensures our new leaders are well-prepared to navigate the challenges of their roles and contribute positively to our organization's growth and success. With both "required" and "elective" courses, this program integrates self-paced e-learning courses and instructor-led training sessions to ensure a holistic blend of knowledge and practical application.

Bring Out Our Best - Leadership Development Forums

Through a monthly meeting format, this program is designed to enhance a leader's knowledge, skills and abilities through peer-to-peer sharing, in-house guest speakers and facilitated discussions. Monthly topics are aligned with the organization's focused engagement efforts. Examples of past series include "The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership," "Building a Culture of Communication" and "Building a Culture of Wellbeing."

Staff Development

Valley Children’s provides opportunities for staff to develop their skills and knowledge. These opportunities for growth come in many different forms and are most often offered for participation during daytime working hours. Our Best People Skills curriculum provides a number of self-paced e-learning modules on topics such as emotional intelligence, stress management, problem solving, communication, time management and more.
