Advanced Practitioner - Neurosurgery Clinic - FT/Days

This position is open to a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. TheAdvanced Practice Practitioner is accountable for a "defined" patientpopulation. Functions in the roles of expert practitioner, consultant,educator, patient advocate, care coordinator and researcher within aspecialized area of practice. Possesses and exhibits a high degree ofknowledge, skill and competence in the provision of health care directly to thepatient, family or community, or indirectly through guidance of care by otherprofessional personnel. Provision of patient care is conducted and performedutilizing the medical model within the scope of licensure and in accordancewith applicable law, regulations, and in accordance with VCH policies. Upon acceptance of an offer of employment andprior to providing patient care, candidate must submit Scope of Practice andall information for credentialing, to the Medical Staff office, HospitalInterdisciplinary Professional Practice Council.


PhysicianAssistant - Either completion of a PhysicianAssistant program and an Associate's degree, Bachelor's or Master’s degreepreferred. Neurosurgery experience preferred but not required. Open to new gradPAs.. NCCPA is required.
Nurse Practitioner - Active CA RN license. Graduationof a Nurse Practitioner program and a Master's degree. Open to both PediatricNurse Practitioners (PNPs) or Family Nurse Practitioners (FNPs). NursePractitioner National Certification is required within six (6) months of hireor transfer into position. Experience in acute care, pediatrics or neurosurgeryis preferred but not required. A minimumof three (3) years related experience experience is required motivated NP newgraduates are welcomed to apply.

Both positions require - BasicLife Support (BLS) is required within 30 days of hire or transfer intoposition. Must successfully complete the credentialing process through theMedical Staff office via Committee on Interdisciplinary Practices (CIDP) forthe appropriate scope of practice, written standardized protocols, andfurnishing privileges. Ability to work independently, problem-solve, and assumeresponsibility for inpatient/outpatient care. Strong organizational and timemanagement skills. Excellent interpersonal, oral/written communication skillsfor effective interactions with patients and their family members, andcolleagues in multiple medical and surgery disciplines.

This is a full-time (1.0) position. On average, NP/PA will work 80 hours perpay period. Rotational Holidays. The NP/PA will work Monday through Friday, andovernight call on average 1:5 and weekend call coverage 1:5. "Call"responsibilities include performing consults in the ED and inpatient setting, performingtrauma evaluations, and the overall management of inpatient neurosurgicalpatients. During the week, the NP/PA will rotate between first assisting in theOR, clinic, and call. OR experience is helpful but not required. Greatopportunity for NP/PA looking for diversity in their work week. Neurosurgeryexperience preferred but not necessary. Will be trained and supported byNeurosurgery team. Will be trained on bedside neurosurgical interventionsincluding EVD and ICP bolt placement.
