Job Description

This position is accountable for medical nutrition therapy of the pediatric patient. This individual screens patients for nutritional risk, assesses nutrition needs, identifies nutritional requirements according to age and disease, determines nutritional diagnosis, and develops and implements nutrition plans of care. The incumbent evaluates and monitors the outcomes of medical nutrition therapy intervention and provides nutrition education to patients and families to accomplish patient goals.

The Clinical Nutrition Services Department at Valley Children’s Healthcare provides comprehensive nutrition consultation services for pediatric patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Our clinical dietitians work closely with pediatric subspecialists to integrate nutrition goals and recommendations into medical care by developing and implementing customized nutrition care plans. The Clinical Nutrition team is highly skilled, specializing in medical nutrition therapy (MNT) that is evidenced-based. Medical nutrition therapy performed by Registered Dietitians includes screening for nutritional risk, assessing a patient’s nutritional status, developing personalized nutrition interventions, monitoring clinical outcomes, and providing nutrition counseling and education to patients and families.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Bilingual skills preferred.

EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition or related subject required.
  • Coordinated program in Dietetics, dietetic internship or approved pre-professional practice program required.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) required.
  • Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration required.
