Job Description
The Clinical Informaticist (CI) is a clinical leader who serves as the liaison for health IT efforts supporting clinical workflows and associated information systems requirements to support technology initiatives at Valley Children's Healthcare. Responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring the analysis, design, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of assigned health informatics applications and projects. Advanced knowledge and skills required for this role include clinical relevancy and in-depth knowledge and expertise in healthcare informatics, evidence-based processes, consultation, and leadership. Functions as a clinical resource to IT services as a content resource for assigned projects and initiatives, and as needed for ad hoc requests. Provides input to design and technical development, actively participates, and validates product/system through testing activities and documentation for change and quality control. Ability to work with colleagues in a positive way to help reinforce changes in workflows supporting the intended use of the electronic system and avoiding system workarounds. These competencies are essential to advance the practice, professional development, and support of nursing/clinical practice and care management activities across the care continuum.

About Us:
Clinical Informatics oversees training and workflow development for the Epic electronic health record. This includes providing training and support for new employees as well as ongoing support for all Epic users. Instructional Designers are experienced educational training professionals who know how to apply adult learning behavior theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field. They work with subject matter experts to learn workflows and apply instructional design methodology to the development of training materials for Epic system upgrades and optimizations. Clinical Informaticists apply their clinical training and experience to evaluate and improve workflows for clinical users of Epic. This includes proposing and overseeing system optimizations, collaborating with system analysts, and working with Instructional Designers on the development of training materials as needed. Clinical Informaticists round with users to observe workflows and provide at-the-elbow support as needed.

EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 4 years clinical experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in nursing informatics and informatics systems required
- Minimum 2 years’ experience and demonstrated competency with the current electronic documentation system required
- Ability to work with colleagues in a positive way to help reinforce changes in the workflows supporting the intended use of the electronic system and avoiding system work-arounds
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing required
- Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Epic Certification necessary to support area of specialty required within 90 days of hire or transfer into position
- Clinical Informatics Certification (ANIA, CHCIO, RN-BC - Informatics Nursing Certification) preferred
ADDITIONAL DETAILS: This is a full time, exempt level position. Hybrid role and must have the ability to be on site up to 3 days per week as needed.
