Clinical Nurse Specialist - Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

SUMMARY: The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is an advanced practice nurse who functions in the role of expert clinician, educator, leader, consultant and researcher. In collaboration with the healthcare team, the CNS monitors the clinical care of patients and provides clinical support to improve patient care and outcomes. With in depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience in a nursing specialty, the CNS sphere of influence includes the care of the patient/family, practice of nursing and providing solutions for complex systems and processes. The CNS serves as a role model, patient advocate, charge agent, and leader to enhance patient care.This position practices with the scope of the California Nursing Practice Act and in accordance with Valley Children's policies.


  • Master’s Degree in Nursing with Clinical Nurse Specialty required
  • Active California Registered Nurse licensure (RN) and Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) required
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience in a clinical area required
  • Minimum 5 years of increasingly responsible experience with demonstrates proficiency in the skills and knowledge required to perform the job required
  • Experience in PICU and/or pediatrics preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days of hire or transfer into position
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 12 months of hire or transfer into position
  • Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) preferred

POSITION DETAILS: Full Time, exempt level position, 80 hours per pay period, exempt

PAY RANGE: 59.00 - $94.00
