Lead Cook - Full-time/Varied

Job Summary:

Prepares food items for cafeteria and/or catered meals and preparation for the following day. Checks leftover food items in walk-in refrigerator and incorporates into cafeteria menu. Confers with PM cook for café meal service. Responsible to requisition needed food items to fulfill menu. Works with the buyer for any special food items that are needed to fulfill the menu. Can work in either the catering or retail meal service as a lead cook. May assist in designing recipes for catered functions or for the café. May work as a Patient Services Cook as assigned. If assigned to catering, works independently in preparation of catered hot or cold meals.

Qualifications:


Education

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. (required)
  • College Degree - 2 year AA culinary degree (preferred)


Licenses and Certifications

  • Other - Other Serve Safe Certification (preferred)
  • Other - Other Culinary Certificate (preferred)


Work Experience

  • Minimum two (2) years Previous cook experience in acute healthcare facility. (required) Or
  • Minimum two (2) years Previous cook experience in large volume food service operation (required)


Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to read, write legibly, understand, and follow oral and written English instruction.
    Ability to prepare quality food and serve in needed quantity following standardized recipes and using different cooking processes and methods.
    Must have knowledge of materials used in large-scale food production and of use and care of equipment and utensils.
    Must have knowledge of basic math skills used in cooking.
    Must have knowledge of portion control and proper use of pans sizes.
    Must have knowledge of Food Safety.
    Must be a team player and be flexible in all work assignments. And
  • Computer Skills Must have basic computer skills.
