About Us:
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Valley Children’s Hospital is Central California’s only Regional Level IV NICU - the highest level of medical care available for premature and critically ill newborns. With a focus on family-centered care, our patients have access to a full range of pediatric and surgical specialists that treat potentially life-threatening illnesses due to extreme prematurity, congenital defects, injury, chronic illnesses and more. Our NICU patient ratios are 1:1 or 2:1 in the ICU and 1:3 in Intermediate Care. Collectively, our NICUs provide specialized care for more than 1,400 fragile babies and nearly 25,000 patient days a year. Our team supports a network of NICUs throughout Central California, providing services for Madera County, Merced County, Fresno County, Kings County and Tulare County.
Our level II and level III satellite NICUs (Fresno, Merced & Hanford) are staffed with Valley Children’s team of experts to provide patients the opportunity to receive treatment closer to home. The nurses in these satellite units are trained to attend high-risk deliveries and resuscitate babies in the delivery room if needed. Our NICU is ranked as one of the best children’s hospitals in Neonatology by U.S. News & World Report for 2023-2024- the seventh such ranking for our NICU. Our expert team consists of more than 250 neonatal nurses, constantly striving to innovate and improve patient care so babies have the best outcomes.
Job Summary:
The Neonatal Feeding Prep Technician position is responsible for the preparation, distribution, inventory, and management of both Expressed Breast Milk (EBM) and Donor Breast Milk (DBM). Will manage receiving, scanning milk into the system, organizing EBM supplies to ensure patients receive appropriate oldest milk first. The Technician will be responsible for preparation of the work area. Preparation of fortified breast milk aseptically. Records refrigerator and freezer temperature appropriately. Pull reports and audit data on feedings, EBM/DBM to ensure accuracy. Participates in department in-services to maintain appropriate competence in specified duties.Qualifications:
Education
- High School Diploma/G.E.D. (required)
- College Degree - 2 year (preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
- BLS - Basic Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association within 30 days of hire or transfer into position (required)
- SERVSAFE - Serve Safe Food Handler - NRA - National Restaurant Association within 60 days of hire or transfer into position (required)
Work Experience
- Minimum six (6) months Hospital, clinic and/or physician office experience (preferred)
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to understand and interpret basic medical terminology and ability to make accurate mathematical calculations.
- Ability to follow verbal directions.
- Computer Skills Proficient.
