About Us:

The pediatric inpatient post-surgical unit, also known as Explorer, is a dynamic and fast-paced, 35-bed unit, specializing in post-surgical care for patients across various specialties including orthopedics, general surgery, cardiac, and neurology. With centralized monitoring, our dedicated staff ensures high-quality care for every patient, offering an excellent opportunity for nurses to acquire diverse skills due to the rapid turnover and patient variety. The unit also plays a crucial role in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), with 12 beds – 6 for seizure monitoring and 6 for surgical overflow cases. Our EMU rooms are equipped with specialty equipment to monitor and visualize seizure activity, leading to improved treatment and better patient outcomes.

Job Summary:

An unlicensed multi-skilled worker who supports patient care by performing specific nursing tasks and support functions as delegated by a licensed provider. Care provided by the PCT is supervised by a Registered Nurse.

Qualifications


Education
  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. (required)
  • Program Graduation from a patient care program (i.e. MA, CNA, EMT) (required) Or
  • Program One semester of an RN or LVN program (required) Or
  • Equivalent Experience Two years in a similar role in lieu of patient care program or nursing program requirement (required) Or
  • Equivalent Experience Current Valley Children's Pediatric Nurse Extern (required)

Licenses and Certifications
  • BLS - Basic Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association within 30 days of hire or transfer into position (required)

Work Experience
  • Minimum six (6) months Providing direct patient care (preferred)

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to work in a team environment, ability to be delegated tasks by the RN, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a timely manner. And
  • Medical terminology skills are preferred. And
  • Bilingual Skills Preferred.
