Job Description
The Lead Pharmacist serves as the clinical expert and operational resource for a designated specialty area (Oncology, Med/Surg, NICU, PICU, IV Admixture, Residency/Student Program). Leads or assists in the identification and resolution of work process issues within the department and/or specialty area, assuring quality and patient safety are of greatest importance. Performs a variety of Pharmacist duties at a high functioning level. Works directly with the Pharmacy and department leadership providing practical application of pharmacy protocols, policies, and procedures. Coordinates the initial data collection for the specified department and recommends solutions, consulting with pharmacy management. Evaluates staff competencies, provides education and training, assists with staff scheduling, and provides feedback to management regarding staff performance within the specialty area.

The Inpatient Pharmacy Department at Valley Children’s utilizes evidence-based therapeutic guidelines to provide exceptional pharmaceutical care to our patients. Our highly trained pharmacists and pharmacy technicians work side-by-side with providers and other interprofessional teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes, while utilizing state-of-the-art technology to maximize patient safety. Inpatient Pharmacy provides clinical interdisciplinary pharmacy services in all inpatient areas including Rehab, PICU, NICU, Acute Care, and Oncology. We have numerous pharmacy advance practice protocols including antibiotic monitoring, anticoagulation, IV to oral conversion, and renal dosing. Other clinically supported services include the Emergency Department, Palliative Care, Investigational Drug oversight, and parenteral nutrition (including production). Our team members also support the following specialty clinics: Oncology, Hematology, Rheumatology, Pulmonology/CF, Endocrinology, Neurology, Cardiology and our complex primary care center. Many pharmacists hold collaborative practice agreements to optimize medication therapy management and collaborate to enhance patient care.

EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum one (1) year hospital experience. Shall be able to perform all duties as a Pharmacist
- Communication skills: Demonstrated ability to give both positive and constructive feedback to management, technician and pharmacist staff members, residents, and students
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree required
- ASPH Accredited Residency Program. Pediatrics preferred but not required
- RPH - Registered Pharmacist License - California State Board of Pharmacy required
- BLS - Basic Life Support is required within 30 days of hire or transfer into position
- NPI - National Provider ID Number required under HIPPA Administrative Simplification
- PALS - Pediatric Advance Life Support is required within 12 months of hire or transfer into position
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support - Encouraged for those serving in the position preferred
- Board of Pharmacy Specialties Certification, Certified Nutrition Support Clinician, etc. preferred
