The Inpatient Pharmacy Department at Valley Children’s utilizes evidence-based therapeutic guidelines to provide exceptional pharmaceutical care to our patients. Our highly trained pharmacists and pharmacy technicians work side-by-side with providers and other interprofessional teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes, while utilizing state-of-the-art technology to maximize patient safety.

Inpatient Pharmacy provides clinical interdisciplinary pharmacy services in all inpatient areas including Rehab, PICU, NICU, Acute Care, and Oncology. We have numerous pharmacy advance practice protocols including antibiotic monitoring, anticoagulation, IV to oral conversion, and renal dosing.  Other clinically supported services include the Emergency Department, Palliative Care, Investigational Drug oversight, and parenteral nutrition (including production).

Our team members also support the following specialty clinics: Oncology, Hematology, Rheumatology, Pulmonology/CF, Endocrinology, Neurology, Cardiology and our complex primary care center.  Many pharmacists hold collaborative practice agreements to optimize medication therapy management and collaborate to enhance patient care.

Job Summary:

This position is a one-year ASHP Accredited Pharmacy Residency position for pharmacists and/or new pharmacy school graduates seeking additional specialty training and education. The emphasis of the experience is advanced education in pediatric pharmacy practice. This PGY1 pharmacy residency program builds on the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) education and contributes to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of pediatric patients with a wide range of conditions. Residents will be trained and evaluated based on the most current ASHP required educational competency areas and goals: Patient Care, Advancing Practice and Improving Patient Care, Leadership and Management, and Teaching, Education and Dissemination of Knowledge. Graduates of the program will be eligible for board certification and PGY2 pharmacy residency training.

Qualifications:


Education
  • College Degree - 4 year Pharmacy or equivalent (required)
  • Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (required)

Licenses and Certifications
  • RPH - Registered Pharmacist - CA-SBP - California State Board of Pharmacy California State Board of Pharmacy within 120 days of hire or transfer into position (required)
  • BLS - Basic Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association within 30 days of hire or transfer into position (required)
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association within 12 months of hire or transfer into position (required)
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association Encouraged for those serving the PICU, Emergency Department and overnight shifts. within 12 months of hire or transfer into position (preferred)

Work Experience
  • Minimum one (1) year Related experience (required)
