About Us:
The Prenatal Screening department is a Case Coordination Center for the California Prenatal Screening Program, which is part of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). Participation in the program is offered by prenatal care providers to all pregnant individuals in California. Prenatal screening uses a pregnant individual’s blood samples to screen for certain birth defects in their fetus. Coordinators call clinicians and patients and review Prenatal Screening (PNS) blood test results requiring follow-up, facilitate the referral of patients with confirmed positive results to state-approved Prenatal Diagnosis Centers (PDCs), monitor the patients until follow-up services are completed, and perform clinician education in the assigned region. The coordinators also facilitate specimen tracking with GDSP clinical laboratories, as well as provide consultation on program processes and case management protocols.
