Job Title: Security Officer - Security - Per Diem

Job Description: This position is accountable for maintaining all Security Department and VCH policies, standard operating procedures, and protocols. The incumbent will maintain a safe and secure environment for all employees, physicians, patients, visitors, and contractors/vendors on VCH property by being prepared for emergency situations and responding to all incidents and emergency situations properly. This position assists in visitor identification and health screening upon hospital entry, the effective operation of video surveillance equipment to aid in the protection of VCH property and assets, ensures the safety and visitor entry of the Emergency Department at all times, and detects and reports the existence of safety hazards.

The Security Team plays a vital role in ensuring a safe healthcare environment for the hospital, building and grounds. We support a fast-paced environment as part of a level 2 trauma center. Security responds to incidents ranging from addressing aggressive individuals to completing visitor health screening. We patrol all premises and enforce visitor management expectations. Security Officers are the first to greet visitors entering and help visitors find their way. Customer Service is a priority as well as handling disturbances and communicating effectively to support family-centered-care with an empathy-led mindset. Security Officers respond to alarms, emergency requests and apply effective verbal intervention to resolve incidents. Security Officers maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling private healthcare information. The Security Officer is a collaborative team player who provides extraordinary customer service that makes a difference for the children and families that we serve. EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of six (6) months experience in the security field, Honorably Discharged military veteran, graduate of an accredited security related program (i.e. Police Academy, criminal justice program), or completion of a security focused certification program required
  • A minimum one (1) year related experience preferred
  • Previous security experience in healthcare or hospital environment preferred
  • Availability to work any assigned shift
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, understand, and follow verbal and written English instruction
  • Possess good communication and customer service skills
  • Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with Security peers, Hospital employees, physicians, the public, and local law enforcement (as applicable)
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with a team and independently using sound judgement and common sense
  • Familiarity with computer and Microsoft Office program (specifically Word documents)
  • Bilingual Skills preferred

EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma as accredited by the US Department of Education or GED required
  • A valid California BSIS Guard Card required - For candidates with a current POST certificate, a BSIS Guard Card must be obtained within 90 days of hire
  • BLS - Basic Life Support required within 30 days of hire or transfer into position
  • CDL - California Drivers License with acceptable driving record required

ADDITIONAL SHIFT INFORMATION:

  • Per Diem Position - Varied Shifts/On Call hours: Days 0545-1415, Evenings 1345-2215, Nights 2145-0615 - Weekends and Holidays are included
  • Scheduled to work a minimum of 24 hours in two weeks, including holidays, as needed to meet core staffing
  • Four weekend shifts within four weeks, as needed, to meet core staffing needs
  • Activated overtime twice in two weeks, as needed, to meet core staffing
