Wound & Ostomy Specialist - Patient Care Support
Job Description
A nurse who provides clinical leadership and functions in the role of expert clinician, educator, and consultant. Manages the needs of the patients with complex needs related to skin, wound and ostomy, care, deliver patient care at an expert level, demonstrate leadership skills and serve as a resource. Provides education to the patient/family and members of the health care team. Monitors quality outcomes and enhances care practice through evidence based policies and procedures, research, and implementation of new techniques, equipment, products and processes for safe, cost-effective, quality care for the prevention of skin breakdown, and provision of care for the patient with skin, wound and ostomy needs. This position practices within the scope of the California Nursing Practices Act and in accordance with healthcare organizations policies and under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer.

Valley Children's Specialty Nursing Services encompasses several different nursing services with specialties in Pediatric and Neonatal Palliative Care, Wound - Ostomy, and Vascular Access. We service both our inpatient and ambulatory departments providing top quality care for our pediatric and neonatal patients. Our specialty nurses have advanced education or certification in their respective specialty fields and function very autonomously. In conjunction with our physician partners and / or medical directors, this team navigates and delivers the unique care of our pediatric patient population. Additionally, these specialty nurses provide ongoing education to our bedside nurses in their respective field of specialty and actively participate in clinical research. EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 2 years current clinical nursing experience required
- Must have extensive, advanced knowledge of nursing principles and clinical practice
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s in nursing required
- Active California Registered Nurse licensure (RN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer into position
- Certified Wound & Ostomy Nurse (CWON) OR Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN) and Certified Ostomy Care Nurse (COCN) required
- Certified Wound Ostomy & Continence Nurse (CWOCN) preferred
