Job Summary:
The Wound & Ostomy Specialist is a nurse who provides clinical leadership and functions in the role of expert clinician, educator, and consultant. This position is accountable for managing the needs of patient with complex needs related to skin, wound and ostomy care; delivering patient care at an expert level; demonstrating leadership skills and serving as an expert resource and consultant. This position provides education to the patient/family and members of the healthcare team. This position provides organizational clinical leadership in the prevention of skin breakdown. Monitors quality outcomes and enhances care practice through evidence-based policies and procedures, research, and implementation of new techniques, equipment, products and processes for safe, cost-effective, quality care for the prevention of skin breakdown and provision of care for the patient with skin, wound, and ostomy needs.This position practices within the scope of the California Nurse Practice Act and in accordance with healthcare organization's policies and under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer.
Qualifications:
Education
- College Degree - 4 year Nursing (required)
Licenses and Certifications
- RN - Reg Nurse (required)
- BLS - Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire or transfer into position (required)
- CWON - Cert Wound & Ostomy Nurse (required) Or
- CWCN - Cert Wound Care Nurse (required) And
- COCN - Cert Ostomy Care Nurse (required)
- CWOCN - Cert Wound Ostomy & Cont Nurse (preferred)
Work Experience
- Minimum two (2) years Clinical nursing experience following RN Licensure (required)
Skills and Abilities
- Other Must have an extensive advanced knowledge of nursing principles and clinical practice.
